A Reason to Share the Workshop

Plan a Future:   Suicide is a People problem, yet People in crisis are not the problem. Depression, despair, anxiety, pain from emotional, mental, physical, or spiritual wounds leading to loss of hope is the problem. Relational poverty is widespread in today's culture. The church community offers a spiritual foundation to empower change through increased connectedness among its people. By creating a safe environment that accepts vulnerability and personal struggles, the church is positioned to take active steps and address the problem of suicide.

Think 3-2-1 Crisis Intervention Strategy and BE KIND Model Workshops create a climate of learning that helps individuals identify solutions for well-being. By reducing barriers to dialogue and stigma associated with seeking help, and instilling means to practice kindness God’s way, a spiritual awakening occurs that can lead someone to safety.

Overview: Think 3-2-1 Strategy consists of Think 3 Charlies, 2 Mnemonics, 1 Solution.    A right connection (3 Charlies) can bring hope, a dance dialogue (2 Mnemonics) can lead to a “rooster crow” wakeup call and Think 1 Solution can empower the person in crisis.

When kindness is genuine, kindness creates a climate that fosters resiliency, recovery, and referral. When the person in crisis recognizes hope, help and healing follow. Think 3-2-1 Crisis Intervention Strategy and the BE KIND Model Workshops are tools to increase dialogue, confidence, and competence in deescalating a person in crises.

Intent: The intent of curriculum is to model after the Greatest Crisis Interventionist known to     mankind, God’s Kindness. Jesus is the head of the church, and we are body of Christ. We have the opportunity to intervene and power to intercede in the life of someone experiencing crisis. However, the church and programs often address various ills but rarely the topic of suicide or mental health illness. Why?  Because of the stigma associated with suicide and mental health issues. The opportunity to explore this topic will help us to better understand. When suicide afflicts clergy and family, it is clear, that suicide is no respecter of persons.

Bottom line: Suicide is a mental health crisis; suicide ideation begins in the mind. Suicide ideation is a stage in which a person experiencing extreme stress believes there is no other way out of their pain or difficulty than but to kill themselves. Everyone is vulnerable to suicide ideation; however, no one has to die.

When many can be effectively mobilized as effective crisis interventionist, the number of suicides can effectively be decreased.
